In addition to features, I’ve written or contributed to numerous service articles on travel to Japan for publications that include: the BBC, the Guardian, the Independent, the Japan Times, and the Sunday Times Travel Magazine. I’ve covered new openings; budget and etiquette tips; trip planning suggestions; dining, drinking and shopping recommendations; day trips; and onsen getaways. Content is always original, with a fresh angle tailored to the publication.

Before settling mostly on travel (which is more often than not about something else anyway), I was a dining columnist for the Japan Times (2012–2014) and a contributing writer at Tokyo Art Beat (2007–2010).

For better (probably) or worse, most of my earliest published writing, for sites like Gridskipper and Pingmag, no longer exists.

Some of my favorite stories:

Tatsuro Kiuchi / Communication Arts (June 2019)

How I Get It Done: Organizational Guru Marie Kondo / The Cut (March 2018)

Rediscovering Lost Tokyo / Japan Times (July 2014)

Ghostly footprints of the ‘modern girl’ along Kamakura’s coastline / Japan Times (June 2014)
